Renata Piotrowska-Auffret invited to Parent Hood in Danshallerne

20th-21st of September – Parent Hood, Danshallerne, Denmark | performative presentation online

Event for the industry: When artistic career and parenting unite

A two-day event for professionals dedicated to how you as an artist unite being a parent and having a professional artistic career. Is it possible to give your children a steady and safe everyday life combined with the unstable situation artists often finds themselves in?

Perhaps you are experiencing a dilemma when the next residency requires you to be away from your children for four weeks in a row while you are in the studio to immerse yourself. The children’s everyday life continues at home, and you can not always take an active part in it. Issues such as these will be addressed with Parent Hood at Edison, September 20th and 21st 2020.

Artists sharing

Dansehallerne has invited choreographer Mette Ingvartsen (DK) to share her experiences from life as a touring artist with two children. It will happen in conversation with performer Johanna Chemnitz (D), who just gave birth to her second child a few weeks ago.
My Grönholdt (DK/SE) who created the baby performance The Night has helped develop the concept for Parent Hood. She will also share her experiences from her life with three small children and a partner who works as a sound designer.

In addition, Brazilian author and curator André Lepecki and German philosopher and art theorist Bojana Kunst will both reflect on the topic of parenting united with an artistic career.

We have also invited the Polish performer Renata Piotrowska-Auffret to give a performative presentation online. With the performance The Pure Gold is Seeping out of Me, she has pointed out the issues that arise when female artists try to reconcile the yearning for motherhood with a professional career as a dancer.

The program is organized both days around various thematic presentations on parenting in relation to an artistic career. There will be ongoing joint reflection and dialogue during the days. Further info about the detailed program will follow soon.

If you have children, please join us with your family. We will create a cosy space where we can reflect together and at the same time also have the children present. Monday we plan to have a joint child-friendly dinner (if Corona allows it).

Sunday, September 20th you will meet Mette Ingvartsen, Johanna Chemnitz, André Lepecki and My Grönholdt.
Monday, September 21st you will meet Renata Piotrowska-Auffret and Bojana Kunst.

The event takes place in English.
